Marketing Announcement

National Pedestrian Safety Month!
National Pedestrian Safety Month is here, and Azuga is committed to raising awareness to keep pedestrians safe year-round!

Did you know that the number of pedestrians struck and killed by vehicles in 2022 was the highest since 1981?
Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility involving both drivers and pedestrians. Drivers must be vigilant and follow traffic rules while behind the wheel. Pedestrians must ensure they use designated crosswalks whenever possible, obey traffic signals, and make themselves visible to drivers by wearing reflective clothing.

Here are a few safety tips for drivers:

1. Always keep an eye out for pedestrians.

2. Use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions, such as nighttime or bad weather.

3. Reduce your speed and be prepared to stop when turning or entering a crosswalk.

4. Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop back from the crosswalk to give other vehicles an opportunity to see the crossing pedestrians too.

National Pedestrian Safety Month serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize pedestrian safety and work towards reducing pedestrian injuries and fatalities and together we can create safer streets and protect the lives of pedestrians.

The NHTSA’s Commitment to Reducing Pedestrian Crashes

A recent article by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the commitment to reducing pedestrian crashes by implementing a mandate for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology in vehicles. AEB is a safety feature that uses sensors to detect potential collisions and automatically applies the brakes to prevent or mitigate the impact.

According to the NHTSA, pedestrian fatalities have been on the rise in recent years, accounting for a significant portion of overall traffic-related deaths. By requiring AEB in all new vehicles, including fleet vehicles, the agency hopes to reduce the number of pedestrian crashes and save lives. The mandate is part of the NHTSA's larger effort to improve vehicle safety and prevent accidents and AEB has already proven to be effective in reducing rear-end collisions, and by expanding its use to include pedestrian detection, it is expected to have a significant impact on preventing accidents involving pedestrians.
